Cults - Go Outside
Cults
Cults is from NYC! I love New York things/people so I was really interested in listening to Cults’ music. Their music may remind you of some classic pop songs, but its so forward and modern that you’re always going to find yourself carving out a new place for it in your heart. Listen to more of Cults at their WEBSITE and keep an eye out for their debut album when you walk into a music store (if you still go to those).
VAST - Touched
Visual Audio Sensory Theater
VAST, or Visual Audio Sensory Theater, and it’s lead singer Jon Crosby combine the soulful sounds of acoustic guitars with the sometimes roughness and often stimulating sounds of electronic instruments. When you close your eyes and listen to their music, you can almost feel the textures of the music. They are ever changing, but they cradle you into an alternate reality for a short period of time. They are a sensation. Listen to more of VAST HERE.
The Flaming Lips - Buggin’
The Soft Bulletin
The Flaming Lips could not be more classic. Since 1983 they have been an alternative rock and pop mecca for music listeners. In 1999 they released The Soft Bulletin which featured songs with simple lyrics that could be listening to on a whim, or analyzed deeper for further meaning. I think Buggin’ should be on everybody’s summer playlist. It’s a track that shouldn’t be forgotten.
Goddess Gagged - Visionary
*Too cool not to share alert*
Nailler9, an amazing Music Blog compiled a “Mixtape” of music from around the world. One of the songs I happened upon was Visionary. I don’t know if it shows how homogeneous music has become, or how the spread of musical talent can produce other raw talent.
Nailler9 describes them like this:
Goddess Gagged is a metal band from Mumbai. The band channel melodic post-hardcore in the vein of acts like Architects and Alexisonfire, a foundation given legs by frontman Siddharth Basrur’s almost effervescent vocal delivery. Visionary is a new track, presumably from the band’s upcoming debut album. We suggest you keep your eyes and ears open for that.
PS. The picture is of the band winning an award… I couldn’t find any album art.
The Killers - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine
Hot Fuss
When this song was released in 2004, it along with Midnight Show became known as parts 2 and 3 of the Murder Trilogy by The Killers. This is one of those interesting facts that most people do not know; that along with Leave the Bourbon On the Shelf the songs make up a story about the murder of a girlfriend, and the events that follow.
I know what you’re doing here,
So come on, oh come on, oh come on.
Young The Giant - My Body
Young The Giant
The band’s diverse ethnic backgrounds –Indian, Persian, British, and French-Canadian—translate into an incredibly dynamic sound that offers jazz rhythms, surf pop harmonies, Mediterranean and Caribbean influences, flashes of jolting alt rock and so much more.
Is how last.fm puts it. The single by this newly formed group is heart-thumping and mind-tingling. Take a listen and make sure to find out more about Young The Giant and their whole studio album here. What does your body tell you about this song? Vifardent recommended this one!
Fleet Foxes - Your Protector
Fleet Foxes
I know Helplessness Blues was just released but I still like the Fleet Foxes’ debut album. Furthermore Your Protector just can’t get any better. Fleet Foxes is an American band whose alternative rock-pop style has delighted many music-lovers in North America and around the globe. They are unique and inspiring which is all you can ask for from great artists.
The Kooks - Shine On
Konk
This is my favourite Kooks song. It is from the 2008 album Konk. The band is so classic and this song will hopefully be on a “Best Of…” album one day. Fun fact: It only made it to #63 in the UK Singles Chart when it was first released. (It’s #1 in my books. :])
Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
This is Coldplay’s hot off the press single. I think it has a very Viva La Vida and Strawberry Swing feel to it.
Vaguely trance-y, slightly meditative and most definitely sunny, ”Teardrop” is basically four minutes of pure, unadulterated uplift.
That is how MTV put it in this article. And I totally agree. Take a listen for yourself!
Iron & Wine - Such Great Heights
Such Great Heights EP
Okay, just like I won’t usually post remixes, I surely won’t post many covers. However, I have been listening to Such Great Heights non-stop for 2 days. Praise be to The Postal Service, and their original track, but I like this soft and acoustic version by Sam Beam a lot more. Many people know him for Fever Dream, or being featured on any playlist called “Sleep” or “Tired”. His live performances featured on his VEVO page are mesmerizing! Grab a pillow and get listening.
